Charges As each and every repair varies, it might be wise to call
before bringing in or sending your instrument to us - sometimes
a telephone consultation might be all that is needed, as we will
send easily fitted spares in the post. The following prices however
are a guide to typical repair costs. All prices quoted are ex-vat. |
Cornet,
Trumpet, Flugel and Tenor Horn
The most common repair on small brass instruments is the removal
and cleaning of stuck valves and slides, this is usually caused
by dried saliva, especially if the instrument has been left without
being played for a prolonged period.

Trombones
The most common fault that occurs with trombones is denting of
the outer slides from collision with music stands. Trombones with
rotary valves are also vulnerable to drying out if left un-lubricated.

French
Horns
After each holiday period the workshop is inundated with French
Horns with stuck valves, usually caused by leaving the instrument
full of saliva that dries and seizes up the valve.

Brass
Instruments - General Information
The prices quoted are for average condition instruments. Instruments
in very bad condition needing more work will cost more. However,
if an instrument can be turned around with a minimum of difficulty
the price will reflect this and be lowered. Any new parts required
will be quoted for separately. Very often we are able to supply
used parts from salvaged instruments at a reduced expense.
Re-laquering and Silver plating on complete overhauls will be quoted
for taking into consideration the condition of the instrument.
Please be aware that if an instrument has to be soldered, the heat
applied may cause marks on laquer or silver finish. |
Flutes & Piccolos
Most repairs to the flute require straightening bent keys and regulation.
These usually can be prevented with careful assembly.

Like most woodwind instruments the majority of damage occurs on
assembly, especially if the corks are stiff. With a little thought
your instrument can be kept away from the repair shop for a long
period.

Bassoon
It is often very difficult to assemble a bassoon, especially if
the joints are stiff. You should grease regularly or take your
instrument to a repair shop before trouble occurs.

Saxophones
The main faults that seem to occur on saxophones are:
• Miss- alignment between the second octave key and the body - sometimes
we can advise you over the telephone on how to remedy this.
• Sticky pads (usually caused by dried saliva) this may also be cured at
home.
• A spring loose from its position - again give us a ring we might be able
to help.
